GLP-1 DRUGS THE NEXT BIG THING IN HEALTHCARE? Steve and Kristin examined a recent comment from author and podcaster Scott Galloway who said providing the popular weight-loss drug to the poorest people in our society could ultimately be the best way to lower healthcare costs. Or could we all just eat healthier? Although the cyclospora outbreak might do that on its own, right?
POINT TAKEN GOES NORTH OF THE BORDER! Canadian economist Todd Hirsch joined the show to talk about the latest round of the tariff war between the U.S. (well, President Trump anyway) and Canada. Steve and Kristin wrapped up the show with an interesting survey of H.R. professionals who’ve noted that parents are starting to show up at their children’s job interviews. There are helicopter parents, and then there’s whatever this trend is. “Mom, what are my best attributes?”
A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE - Steve shared his memories of August 5, 2012, when six people were killed at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek. He honored the victims by name, and highlighted the individuals who shaped his, and his community’s, recovery from that tragic event.
LET’S GO TO THE FAIR! Steve and Kristin were live from the Bank Five-Nine Studio at the Wisconsin State Fair. In a guest-filled show, they welcomed West Allis Mayor Dan Devine, City Forward Collective Executive Director Colleston Morgan, and UrbanMilwaukee.com’s Jeramey Jannene. Despite staring at the Dairy Building all show long, they avoided the temptation to take on the cream puff challenge, although Steve did say he thought Kristin was robbed last year in the cream puff competition at the Fair.
HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS AND THE WISCONSIN GOVERNOR’S RACE? Bill McCoshen and Joe Zepecki joined Steve at the Fair for a rollicking two hours breaking down the Wisconsin Governor’s race, the latest from Washington (does the President have a new barber?) and the always popular Say Something Nice! While civility is certainly the goal on the Friday show, Steve couldn’t hold back his disdain for one candidate’s increasingly obtuse views on national holidays. Leave our turkey day alone! Valentine’s Day? That’s debatable.

I listened to this episode of NYTimes the Daily on my drive up to Wisconsin Rapids: Arizona’s Food Stamp Crisis Is Coming for the Rest of the U.S.
It should be required listening. It underscores both how vital this program is and how disastrous the Big Beautiful Bill is for people who are just scraping by. If you are someone who is skeptical of government handouts, please listen to this and understand the circumstances of some of the people who depend on this program.
